The best way to think of hypnosis is deep relaxation, down to the point where brain activity nears sleep. In this deeply relaxed state the conscious mind switches off while the subconscious mind becomes incredibly sharp and open to suggestion. Contrary to what you may have seen on stage shows or on TV, it is impossible to make you do something that you don’t want to while under hypnosis. Your subconscious mind is still your mind and therefore it won’t accept anything that you don’t want to. It is also impossible to become trapped in hypnosis as you can wake yourself at any time and if I were to stop speaking to you without telling you for whatever reason you would naturally come out of hypnosis yourself within a minute or two. So there is absolutely nothing to fear from hypnosis.
